STYLE REPORT | Awards Season Wrap-Up 2019

đź•’ 5-minute read

Aside from the accolades, one of the most exciting parts of awards season is the red carpet (our fave part tbh). Celebrities were dressed to the nines in either the latest runway looks or one-of-a-kind custom pieces. So soak up some inspo for your next bespoke piece with LJ, and check out our top picks from the Golden Globes and the Oscars!

The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes kicked-off the awards season on January 7th. Our fave looks of the night were an eclectic array of textures, fabrics, and silhouettes. Lady Gaga for one was dressed in a voluminous periwinkle Valentino Haute Couture dress. The dress alone served us drama with it’s long cape and larger than life sleeves! But Gaga topped off the look by temporarily dyeing her hair the same hue as her dress, pairing it with diamond jewellery. Now that’s what we call commitment.

On a simpler note, Emily Blunt opted for a metallic guipure lace Alexander McQueen dress, with an uneven hemline. Julia Roberts chose to stand-out from the crowd in her choice of a Stella McCartney jumpsuit (FYI this is perfect for a business gala/ conference, for all you boss ladies out there). Another best-dressed star was Rosamund Pike in Givenchy Haute Couture, her long black gown with criss-cross cut-outs had an edgier approach, while her layered sequin and embellished jacket was definitely a unique sartorial touch. And we saw power couple Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper (in Versace and Gucci respectively), completed each others looks with an embellished fitted gold gown and white tuxedo ensemble.

The Oscars

The recent Academy Awards had a different take on the red carpet – with celebrities turning pink-obsessed, and finally steered away from the safe & cliché pageantry style gowns that traditionally flurry the red carpet.

We saw fashion’s latest it-girl, Gemma Chan steal the show in a pink Valentino Haute Couture dress – cementing it as the colour and comfortable silhouette of the season; featuring a ruched neckline and layers of stitched ruched detailing plus POCKETS (hello practicality). A more feminine and ethereal take on the colour, Grammy Winner Kacey Musgraves wore Giambattista Valli, the master of tulle dresses. Whilst Kiki Layne in Versace took a more structured approach, as her dress featured a distinctive neckline with a dramatic draped over the shoulder detail. And not to be forgotten, Sarah Paulson, who had a more editorial take on red carpet dressing – with her fuchsia-toned pink Brandon Maxwell gown.

Lots of other celebrities opted for shades of silver! Jennifer Lopez, Amanda Stenberg and Amy Adams (just to name a few) donned silver frocks, but our favourite was definitely Brie Larson in Celine. The halter neckline and thigh-high side slit was a perfect mix of sleek and sexy.

What were your thoughts on our awards show picks?! We hope that injected a good dose of inspo! Now until our next red carpet wrap up (our most favourite of them all!) – The annual MET Gala - AKA. The Oscars of the fashion world!
