STYLE REPORT | Spring 2019 Couture

With awards season coming up, designers took their best foot forward to showcase the artistic craftsmanship that is couture. Take a look on our favourite shows, and stock up on inspiration for a perfect bespoke piece!

High-Fashion Glam by Armani Prive

Armani Prive’s most recent couture fashion show featured the ever glamorous approach of cinematic style. Inspired by a blend of 1930s and 1980s styles, Armani Prive stayed true to balancing timeless silhouettes with numerous textures and prints (from ruffled collars, bold red printed fabrics, and metallic lame fabric). For a bespoke approach, start with a customized print – which we can provide! Armani Prive’s Spring 2019 Couture collection is also the perfect show for any race-day outfit inspiration with their use of dainty fascinators and matching it with the perfect dress or ensemble.

Christian Dior’s Couture Circus Show

Christian Dior’s Spring 2019 Couture show put on quite a show (literally and figuratively!). The guests were blessed with watching female contortionists on the floor while the runway models walked – according the Maria Grazia Chiuri the show symbolized how feminism builds women up and makes everyone stronger (hence why performers were standing on each others shoulders). The pieces were feminine, intricate, and masterful. With the use of tulle, sequins and sheer fabrics. Christian Dior’s Spring 2019 Couture show was an instant fan-favourite with Lady Gaga wearing it for the recent SAG Awards last January 27th.

An Ode to Couture by Giambattista Valli

You can always count on Giambattista Valli for that perfect princess moment. With luxurious and modern pieces, Giambattista Valli showcased all the best that fashion has to offer. From hundreds of layers of tulle (one of their signature looks), to embellished applique, and voluminous silhouettes. For a bespoke take – start with taking inspiration for any bridal piece! Valli’s eye-catching designs and dramatic trains are perfect for walking down the aisle in your bespoke wedding dress.

Sculptures Come to Life by Iris Van Herpen

The Iris Van Herpen team were inspired by 19th century sculptures for their latest couture collection. The pieces alone look electrifying in photos, but they truly come to life and create a kaleidoscope optical illusion when the garments are in movement. Iris Van Herpen utilized modern technology by having laser-cut dresses and 3D printed face jewellery. For a bespoke approach, opt for a custom laser-cut design; that we already featured on our first collection. See the dresses come to life in this short clip!

Viktor & Rolf on Making a Statement

Viktor & Rolf took their Spring 2019 Couture show with the allegory on how fashion can make a statement. Their designs are unique on its own with the layers of tiered tulle, bright pastel colours, and triangular structures covered in shirred fabric. Each piece quite literally - spoke for itself, with multiple statements sewn on top of each look. The statements were meant to invoke the viewer’s own interpretation. Viktor & Rolf’s pieces were definitely an online favourite with their use of modern typography for millennial-friendly statements.

Schiaparelli’s Technicolour Night Sky

Whimsical, quirky, and intricate. Schiaparelli’s latest couture show was a combination of out of this world and 1930s fashion. Schiaparelli was inspired by constellations, hence the star motifs and fluorescent colours. The collection was all about highlighting the power of optimism and child-like aspirations. Couture elements such as luxurious fabrics, ruffles, and shirring were incorporated in the collection. The showstopping piece was the finale, with four tiers of multi-coloured tulle!
